COMPOSITION OF FEED FOR BROILERS

What are the main characteristics of a good broilers feed ?

High protein level

Broilers require a protein-rich diet to promote rapid muscle growth. During the different phases of their growth, the protein content of their feed can vary from 20% to 23%, or even more for very young chicks, then decrease slightly as they get older.

Energy

An energy-rich diet is crucial to support the rapid growth rate of broilers. Feeds are generally formulated with energy-rich grains such as maize and sorghum, supplemented with added fats to increase energy density.

Adapting to growth phases

Broiler feed is often segmented into several phases, with specific formulas for each life stage (start-up, growth, finishing), adjusting protein, energy and nutrient levels to meet changing needs as they grow.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins (A, D, E and B vitamins) and minerals (sodium, chlorine, potassium) are added in specific quantities to support bone development, nerve and muscle function, and to prevent deficiencies that could slow growth or cause health problems.

Amino acid balance

The proteins supplied must offer a good amino acid profile, with adequate levels of lysine and methionine in particular, which are crucial for muscle growth and overall performance.

Digestibility

Ingredients must be highly digestible to ensure efficient feed conversion, enabling chickens to get the most out of their feed for optimum growth.

Enriched with Omega-3

Some producers choose to enrich the feed with omega-3, by adding linseed or other sources, to improve the nutritional value of the meat.
